How a Simple 5 Minute Daydream Turns Goals Into Reality

HOW A SIMPLE 5 MINUTE DAYDREAM TURNS GOALS INTO REALITY

Have you noticed that at this time of year you get that pang of how quickly the year is going by?

Then you start to think about all the things you’d set out to achieve on ‘your goals list’. Then it escalates very quickly to the realisation that you haven’t even made a start on some of them (maybe even none of them)?!

Well I’ve been there friend …

Experiencing this sinking feeling and at the same time a sense of urgency that I need to make shxt happen because there are some significant ‘goals’ still sitting on ‘my list’ and they are the same ones that have been on my list for  a while now….and no bingo! (and yes I’ve read the books and they are SMART *)

This has also led me to noticing the fact that there are so many bits of different advice out there about the right way to set goals.

So here’s what I also discovered …

The word ‘intentions’ keeps coming up frequently in the mix too… admittedly I’d noticed this before but thought they are more or less the same thing, aren’t they?!

Well, I’ve come to the conclusion that maybe they’re not…. and after some experimenting there is a difference and it actually does matter.

My 411 on it….

Intention setting, unlike goal setting is an emotive process. One of focusing and letting go simultaneously.

Goals are a logical process. One of continual pursuit.

Goal setting is always a good start but tends to feel like hard work, while Intentions have a much better strike rate and are enjoyable.

Here’s what I mean, setting goals is functional.

You write down what you specifically want to achieve, by when and where and with who etc and then logically you develop a plan to get there.

Goals also tend to gravitate towards what you think it is you need to do in order to get what you desire e.g. earn 100k a year but if you look at why you want to earn 100k a year it’s because what you really want is greater freedom, a new experience or security in your lifestyle.

You focus on the ‘what’ rather than the ‘why’.

Intention on the other hand is when you think about what you desire and why you desire it.

You get really clear on all the details (just like in goal setting) but then you take it to the next level and you envisage what it would feel like, smell like, taste like, look like, mean to you etc in rich and vivid detail as if it were already in place.

You sit with the awesome FEELING it conjures up for you and then you simply let it go and move on your merry way.

I started experimenting with this about 6 weeks ago and wouldn’t you know it - shifts are really happening around my stubborn goals …

Instead of staying goals on a list, they are beginning to take shape.

I didn’t see it at first. I just enjoyed the fun daydreaming. Now I know there’s more to it.

5 minutes a day is all you need to spend envisaging and remembering to take action when the inspiration strikes!

It’s not hard work. There’s a joy in the imagining and …FEELING

Think of it like doing a casserole in the slow cooker. You put all the juicy ingredients together knowing it’s going to turn out amazing and delicious at the end, but you keep checking in and tasting it.

You’re still checking in, making sure it’s going to be great, stirring it, seasoning it, adjusting the temperature… and a little tasting but then you leave it alone to cook because you know ‘the cooker’ is doing the rest.

Intentions versus Goals …

Hand it over to ‘the cooker’ (trust in the unknown…ether, universe, wind, god, ju ju etc …) and enjoy the cooking time.
