What If You Can't Find Your 'Genius Zone'?
WHAT IF YOU CAN'T FIND YOUR GENIUS ZONE?
Recently I sent through some work of mine to a trusted friend to get her input before I shared it with the world (read: scared to make fool of self) and she replied to me "you know Anna, this really is your 'genius zone'...".
It was very nice and encouraging of her of course but I had some major resistance to the term 'genius'. After some soul searching as to why I was having this internal freak, my brain transpired this stream of thought…

I don't consider myself ‘a genius’ and I doubt I ever will (possibly the hangover from being raised by good old fashion grandparents that taught never to skite) and realistically I probably could acquire four darn PhD's on the subject and work at it another 20 years and still wouldn't consider myself a genius per se.
BUT... am I fascinated, curious and interested about my area? Yes.
AND... have I become knowledgeable and experienced as a result of this curiosity? Yes.
SO...do I think I'm ‘a genius’ now in the area. NOOOO!
Which in and of itself is enough of a barrier to stop a lot of us from really owning the great stuff we're drawn to.
Let's face it, it's a lot of pressure asking someone to work out their 'genius zone' and it's another thing to actually believe you're ‘a genius'.
Perhaps I'm being too literal but either way, I think I'm an ordinary gal who is following her curiosities, those things that spark our interest and light us up (a little or a lot).
So if like me, the whole genius wrap is a bit much to come at, I'd like to suggest we start out by finding our 'curiosity zone' (at least to begin with).
Who knows, maybe in time, the resistance will let up and 'genius' could be embraced but until then, I say....
What ever sparks your curiosity or interests you the most, is where your adventure lies. Run into your 'curiosity zone', before you know it you might be calling it your genius zone too.
